160 Billion Planets in the Milky Way | Science News

Planets around stars are the rule rather than the exception. Scientists used Gravitational Microlensing to estimate that there are more planets than stars in the Milky Way Galaxy; which potentially contains (a very modest) 160 billion alien worlds. The Higgs Boson Explained | Science News

CERN gave an announcement on Tuesday 13th December regarding a potential hint at the mass of the Higgs Boson. But what exactly is it? And why are we looking for it? In short, both the ATLAS & CMS detectors show some rare agreement between their independent experiments. Meaning the Higgs is most likely located between 115 - 126 GeV, ruling out the high masses of 127-600 GeV. The results are compatible with what would come from the Higgs, but it's too early to draw definite conclusions & the sigma level is too low (less that 3) to warrant an official discovery (needs at least 5). My money is on a definitive answer to the existence of the Higgs being given in 2012, I can't wait!
